Professor Casmir M. Rubagumya appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics

The University Chancellor in conformity with the Charter and Rules of St John's University of Tanzania has appointed Professor Casmir M. Rubagumya Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Academic Affairs with effect from 1st September, 2013.  He takes over from, Professor Ernest Mombo Kamwaya who has been acting in that post since the resignation of the former DVC (A), Professor E. Mihanjo, in 2012.

Before joining SJUT, Professor Rubagumya was formerly from the University of Dodoma where he was the Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Professor Rubagumya graduated with a PhD from Lancaster University (UK) in 1993. He came back to the University of Dar es Salaam-Tanzania in 1993 where he taught Linguistics and served in various roles in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, including coordinating the Communication Skills Course in the Faculty of Law, before being appointed Associate Dean (Academic) Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in 2003 and the Director of Student Services/Dean of Students in 2004.

The University Management trust that Prof. Casmir M. Rubagumya will bring on board a wealth of academic leadership experience in research and consultancy gained over his long career to the University. It is prospected that he will also focus on quality improvement and assurance, development of new academic programmes, expanding postgraduate enrolment whilst enhancing these programmes and oversight of academic policies.

The Management would like to congratulate Prof. Casmir M. Rubagumya and thank all members of the Senate Committee, the University Council, students and staff who have been part of the growth of the University to date.
